  • What’s a good wedding gift for my sister-in-law?

My eldest brother is finally getting married in a couple of months. A few weeks ago, my brother announced his engagement and introduced us to his fiancée. She’s a lovely lady from the Philippines. She doesn’t really speak much English but she’s fun to be around. I don’t really know much about her for me to know what gift I should get. All I know is that, she’s a jolly and outspoken person. I love my brother so much that I saved up to get him a great gift, but I just don’t know what to get for my soon to be sister-in-law. Need some suggestions. Anyone here from the Philippines that can give me some good ideas?

Presents these days focus more on the value of experience. Objects lose their charisma after a certain period of time, but what lives in your memory forever are the experiences. The more enjoyable it is, the tougher it is to forget. So let us have a look at some of the most creative wedding gift ideas that will definitely please the person you have in mind.

Reserve a room: This can be the ideal gift for a newly married couple just before they take off for their honeymoon. You can reserve a room for the couple in one of the most luxurious hotels in town. This is definitely going to be an experience of a lifetime because the couple in question will finally be able to relax after all the tiring social obligations are over.

Gift certificate for restaurants: If you find that the couple will be honeymooning at a destination that is quite familiar to you, you can get a gift voucher of your favorite eatery there. The freshly wedded couple will be able to enjoy a quiet meal together and reflect on the path that lies ahead in their future.

Wine: For those who are connoisseur of good wine, this present would prove to be extra special. You can purchase a bottle of superior quality wine and put a tag on top that instructs the couple to open the bottle only on their tenth anniversary. After the passage of a decade, when the bottle will be finally opened, the first person that the couple would think of is you.

Wedding scrapbook: To make a wedding present special, you have to put in your very own personal touch. You can create a wedding scrapbook for the couple that narrates the story of how the boy met the girl and how things slowly began to fall in place for the two of them. Incorporate their photographs and a few objects that would smell of pleasant nostalgia.

As far as wedding presents are concerned, you have to use your creative spur to ensure that your gift stands out from the run off the mill ones. To ensure that the present expresses the enormous amount of love and affection that you have for the couple, give it your own personal touch.

Try to find out what is it that the new couple needs most. In a newly wedded life, couples need lots of appliances to have a happy and easy domestic life.

      Appliances

Find out if they need a camera or a microwave oven or a toaster, or a vacuum cleaner etc. Fancy gifts can be easily given. But it is best to try to choose a useful gift for a new couple. If you know that the couple needs an appliance but you cannot afford it or are not lose enough to gift something so expensive, you can always find out other friends who would like to share the gift expenses with you.

Sharing and gifting is a great idea as this makes giving expensive gifts possible while including many people and saving them the energy to decide what to give all over again. But when you are gifting something this way, make sure what you give is something that the couple really need or would love to have and that its expensive.

      Furniture Pieces and Decorative Objects

You can even talk to the couple generally and get an idea of their planned apartment or house and gift nick-nacks like decoration pieces or even better, small pieces of useful furniture, what they want and what they have. If you can afford, try to gift something they want for their new house.

A small set of tea table and two chairs for the veranda can be affordable as well as useful to the new couple and will be remembered by them all their life. Good-luck charms and feng-shui elements can be gifted as well, but find out first if the couple believes in them at all.

      Personalized Wedding Gifts

When a couple invites you to their wedding, they are asking you to witness the ceremony of their togetherness. You can thank them for the honour rightly by giving gifts that symbolize their togetherness. Personalized gifts for the couple are the best wedding gifts possible.

A big frame that has the couple's names embedded or carved on it is a great choice. Brass nameplates bearing the couple's names will win you their hearts and thanks forever. Silver key-chains with their names is another great option. Be creative and make more ideas.

Try to get an idea of the couples needs, wants, likes and dislikes as a couple, as a family, and not as individuals. It is important that you gift something that will be useful and appealing to the pair and not just to the bride or the groom, to give the couple the best wedding gift.

        She needs a few gifts:

Start with a welcome to the family / welcome to America gift -- a language guide book, local maps, a homemade recipe book with your brother's favorite meals, a copy of Brides magazine, if you can afford it, a GPS, maybe driving lessons. . . basic things she'll need to get acclimated.

Then you can worry about a shower gift. Just give cash for the wedding. Your brother is going to have huge legal bills from her immigration issues.
